What Voom Does
Voom is a browser-based voice messaging tool for teams who want quick audio updates without switching apps, using unstable recorders, or seeing ads. Users simply record, get a link, and send.
It integrates with Slack, keeping messages in existing workflows. Recordings are unlimited, encrypted, and downloadable as high-quality MP3s.
Built in 2018–2019, Voom addressed a gap: Slack lacked voice messaging, and alternatives were unreliable, expensive, or cluttered with ads. The team created a solution that just works, designed for speed and reliability.
The Challenge
What The Team Was Up Against
Before Voom, sending quick voice updates required workarounds with tools that weren't built for teams.
Slack Lacked Voice Messaging
Slack had no native support for audio messages. Ten-second updates that would take minutes to type had no home in the team's primary workflow.
Alternatives Were Unreliable
Browser tools like Vocaroo worked but felt unprofessional and didn't fit team workflows. More polished options, like Loom, were inconsistent, with recordings that occasionally failed or were lost.
Ads Made Them Unusable
Tools with full functionality were expensive or overloaded with features the team didn't need. Free options solved costs but added ads, clutter, and frustration, making daily use impractical.
The Solution

A small team of one designer, one developer, one QA engineer, and one project manager built Voom in one month over three sprints.

Open the browser, record, get a link, and send. No installs, accounts, or extra steps. The entire experience focuses on speed and simplicity.
Slack Integration
Voom was built directly into Slack, so voice messages fit seamlessly into the team's existing workflow. Sending a message is as easy as sharing a file.
Designed for Daily Use
No ads, upsells, or unnecessary screens. The interface is clean, reliable, and unobtrusive, blending into the workflow without distraction.

Three-Sprint Delivery
